Computer Technician responsibilities include:
• Understanding of Computer Components and Operating system (mac or windows)
• Installation of operating system and configuration software and drivers
• Maintaining and repairing technological equipment (e.g. routers) or peripheral devices
• Basic understanding and install of LAN/WAN networking in a small office or home
• Helping users (in-person/ over phone) in the use of computers and basic desktop applications… Computer Drive will grow candidate in this role as they display they can perform basic computer technician tasks
Job brief
We are looking for a qualified Computer Technician to repair and maintain computers and networks for Computer Drive’s Clients. Candidate will start on the service bench where they will get real hands on experience in the replacement of parts for Desktop and Laptops. As the technician grows within this job they will move on to servicing clients on site and remotely.
As a computer technician you must be well-versed in computer systems and network functions. The ideal candidate will be able to work diligently and accurately and will possess a great problem-solving ability in order to fix issues and ensure functionality.
The goal is to install and maintain high quality networks and computer systems as well as giving the customer a piece of mind that their offices IT systems are in good hands. Must take good notes on all repairs. Technician will answer phone calls provide recommendations to customer on repairs needed as well as repair prices once they get comfortable in their role.
Responsibilities
• Set up hardware and install and configure software and drivers
• Replace parts on both laptops and desktop computer
• Backup of customer data and restore of operating system
• Maintain and repair technological equipment (e.g. routers) or peripheral devices
• Install well-functioning LAN/WAN and other networks and manage components (servers, IPs etc.)
• Manage security options and software in computers and networks to maintain privacy and protection from attacks
• Perform regular upgrades to ensure systems remain updated
• Troubleshoot system failures or bugs and provide solutions to restore functionality
• Arrange maintenance sessions to discover and mend inefficiencies
• Keep records of repairs and fixes for future reference
• Offer timely technical support and teach users how to utilize computers correctly
Requirements
• Proven experience as computer technician or similar role
• Experience with LAN/WAN networks
• Thorough knowledge of computer systems and IT components
• Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• Very good communication abilities
• Exceptional organizing and time-management skills
• BSc/BA in Computer Science, engineering or relevant field is a plus
• Relevant certifications (e.g. CompTIA A+) will be an advantage
